Probation Counselor

The employee of this class will be responsible for performing a full range of probation services from intake, assessment, and supervision of juvenile offenders placed on probation consistent with state guidelines under the supervision of the Juvenile Court Administrator. The employee will also be responsible for supervising the Diversion Program following program guidelines. Work of this class will require employees to exercise considerable independence of thought and rely on established techniques to effectively meet the needs of each youth consistent with counseling techniques and departmental policies. Work of this class will involve considerable contact with state agencies, local law enforcement agencies, juvenile offenders and their parents, and local citizen groups. Work of this class requires the operation of field and office equipment.

Work is performed both in the field and office setting.

Community Health Nurse

This is experienced community health nursing performing professional nursing services in the following areas: general public health, school health, jail health, communicable disease, women infant and children (WIC) program and maternal-child health care services. Employees in positions of this class will be responsible for carrying out all nursing services on an independent basis by organizing work and carrying out activities within established program objectives. Work involves considerable contact with the community on an individual basis, and frequently during clinics on a group basis, to assess health care needs and explain and implement health programs. Work will require employees of this class to operate office and technical equipment.

Directly supervises clinical service staff. Staff management functions include but are not limited to: recruitment and selection input for new staff, review and updating position descriptions, performance expectations for clinical staff, monitoring and evaluating performance, orientation and training, career development activities, corrective action, labor relations and other associated activities.

Requires Certification as a Physician’s Assistant with (5) years progressively responsible experience in public health including at least (3) years at the management level; or, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and ability.

Master’s degree is preferred.

Whitman County's Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for Corrections Officer eligibility list on a continual basis. Testing will be completed when sufficient applications have been received.

The Whitman County Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for Corrections Officer with the Whitman County Sheriff's Office. This testing procedure will establish a certified eligibility list from which applicants will be considered when positions become available within the Sheriff’s Office. This process will be subject to the rules of the Whitman County Civil Service Commission.

Lateral Entry Deputy Sheriff

Whitman County's Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for Lateral Deputy Sheriff eligibility list on a continual basis.

Applicants must be currently employed a minimum of twelve (12) consecutive months of full-time paid service or ending employment no earlier than 12 months prior to application, as a sworn police officer in a civilian governmental jurisdiction, tribal police officer in Washington state, natural resource investigators employed by the Washington department of natural resources, special agents employed by the Washington state gambling commission, or liquor enforcement officer. In addition, successful completion of the Washington State Basic Training Academy or State training academy in the state in which they are currently employed and the ability to successfully complete the Washington State Basic Training Equivalency Test within one (1) year after employment. Must be a U.S. citizen, at least 21 years of age, no maximum age limit, and must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.

These qualifications must be met at the time of application and also at the time of appointment. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver’s license prior to appointment is required.

Provisional or temporary employment is specifically excluded from consideration in meeting the minimum requirements.

SALARY: $4,042.00 per month plus benefits, DOQ.

Temporary Job Pools

Temporary Pool positions are on an as needed basis within the County. A separate application must be filled out for each position job.  Applications will then remain current for 6 months from the date received.  Due to the nature of the positions work hours cannot be guaranteed.  Salary Ranges $9.47 - $10.50 per hour depending on position and experience.

Temporary Legal Assistant Pool

BASIC PURPOSE: Perform a variety of court, criminal, and/or legal work for supporting Prosecutor and Deputies in District and Superior Court and Child Support Cases; also to aid the VAWA Support Staff.
